HOT SPRINGS – Former Bath County High School and William & Mary standout Jacob Phillips has signed with the Green Bay Blizzard of the Indoor Football League.
Phillips reported to Green Bay last Friday and started two-a-day practices Monday. The Blizzard face La Crosse in an exhibition game Sunday before opening the regular season on Saturday, March 6, at Sioux City.
The IFL will compete with 26 teams in two conferences. The Blizzard are a part of the United Conference Central North Divsion with the Bloomington (Ill.) Xtreme, Chicago Slaughter and the La Crosse Spartans.
The Indoor Football League was founded in 2008. It was created from a merger between the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football League.
The Blizzard will play a 14-game schedule that includes a May 29 date with the Richmond Revolution. The league concludes its season in July with the United Bowl.
The field of play in the IFL is 50 yards long with eight-yard end zones. Eight players are on the field at a time in the league.
Phillips is the older brother of John Phillips, who recently completed a successful rookie campaign with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
