Evelyn Marie Bayne Persinger age 83, of 612 Douglas Avenue, Clifton Forge, died Friday, September 27, 2013.
She was born in Clifton Forge on December 6, 1929, a daughter of the late Roosevelt Wade and Icy Dora Young Bayne.
She was a member of First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in Clifton Forge, where she taught the Willing Worker’s Sunday School Class, and was a member of the Tatum Circle.
She was also a founding member of the Clifton Forge Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary, serving faithfully for 50 years. She enjoyed playing cards and games with her family and was a retired manager for Cato’s with 27 years of service.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Delbert (Buster) Persinger, Sr. in March of 1981, and a brother, Louis (Sonny) Bayne.
She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Stogdale and husband Wilton of Clifton Forge; two sons, Clayton Delbert Persinger, Jr. of Buchannan, W.Va., Thomas Edward Persinger and wife Teresa, of Iron Gate; two sisters, Sylvia Jean Bayne Burdette and Annie May Bayne Loan; two brothers, Roger Allen Bayne and Bernard Wade Bayne; five grandchildren, George Stogdale and wife Wilma, Jennifer Waldo and husband Scott, Tom Persinger, Danny Persinger and Travis Persinger; four great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Robertson, Mackenzie Waldo, Logan Waldo and Cody Stogdale; two great great grandchildren, Bailey and Caleb Wolfe; a sister-in-law, Peggy Mahaney Bayne; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday Sept. 30, in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, with the Reverend Glenn Clements officiating. Interment will be private.
There is no formal visitation scheduled.
