CLIFTON FORGE – The Rev. Emmett Hugh Dobbs, 67, of 1902 Oakwood Drive, Clifton Forge, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor.
He was born December 8, 1942 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late Emmett Hugh Dobbs Sr. and Katherine Clements Dobbs.
He served in the United States Army in Germany and was a former Social Studies teacher who taught for a number of years in both the Alleghany Highlands Public School and the Bath County Public School systems.
Fulfilling a lifelong dream, he became an Anglican Catholic priest serving St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Wytheville.
He was a member of the Alleghany Highlands Chorale and a former choir director for Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church and First Christian Church Disciples in Christ.
He also enjoyed farming and raising horses.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Michael David Dobbs.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Leslie C. and Mary Dobbs of Henrico County, Richmond, a niece, Stephanie Petty of Richmond, and a host of cousins in the Alleghany Highlands.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Anglican Church with the Rev. Thomas McHenry and the Rev. Michael Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.
Pallbearers will be James Dobbs, Davey Dobbs, Larry Hipes, Steve Unroe, Gene Coakley, Mac Campbell, Joe Carpenter III and Glen Bryant.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
