PENDLETON, W.Va. – The Bath County baseball team opened its season Tuesday with an 8-5 loss on the road at Pendleton, W.Va.
The Chargers fell behind 4-0 after three innings of play before rallying for three runs in the top of the fourth.
Pendleton extended its lead to 5-3 with a single run in the home half of the fourth, but the Chargers knotted things up with a two-run sixth inning.
But Bath was unable to hold on as the Wildcats responded with three runs in the home half of the sixth to preserve the non-district win.
Michael Robertson started on the mound for the Chargers and pitched three innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits. Robertson struck out three and walked three.
Eric Woodzell came on in relief and pitched two innings on two-hit ball, allowing one run. Eric Gentry pitched the sixth inning and was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs on one hit. Gentry walked two batters in the inning.
“I was happy with the way we played for our first game,” said Bath County coach Chase Davidson. “We haven’t seen a lot of time on the field and it was evident by our six errors, but overall I thought we played about good.”
Gentry led the Chargers eight-hit attack with a 3-for-4, two RBI day.
J.M. Harvey went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.
Bath County (0-1) is back in action today at Alleghany. First pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m.
