The 33rd annual Nelson family reunion will begin at 9:30 a.m. with registration and end at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 25 at Abilene Community Center beside Beulah United Methodist Church at the crossroads of Routes 671 and 604 on the county lines of Charlotte and Price Edward counties off of Route 15 south of Farmville.
Family members are asked to bring their favorite covered dish or two for the potluck buffet lunch at 12:30 p.m.
A family portrait will be taken; and time will be made for sharing news, looking at the many displays, information, business and free time before going home. Those attending should bring their camera, camcorder, tape recorder, family history pictures and any special memorabilia or other items of interest you wish to share with the family or display.
Ice, utensils, paper goods and some drinks will be furnished.
Any family members who have not given, or have informational changes of named, addresses, phone and cell numbers or e-mail addresses should contact Ellen N. Catron, 262 Nelson Lane, Charlotte Courthouse, Va. 23923-4108, telephone 434-223-8243 or enctrn@kinex.net so the Nelson Family Directory can be updated.
Ellen Catron is interested in information about Henry Nelson, Thomas and Tabitha Nelson and Joseph Daniel who lived in the late 1700s. She also wants information about William Nelson who went to Warren County, Ga., about 1789.
She would especially like to learn the names of their children, their parents, where they came from and when, etc. She is hoping to find a clue to more information about her ancestor, Ashley Nelson, who has become a “brick wall” to tracing the family ancestors further.
The Charlotte County Heritage Committee began work on Volume II of January 21. If anyone wishes to contribute articles for it concerning where you were born or lived in the county or if you wish to tell about a homeplace, business or family history, or were in the military there, they can submit a picture and article. It can be e-mailed to Ellen Catron or to Cora St. John at ccccstjohn@hotmail.com.
A quilt piece with a number on it was sent to those who received reunion notices. The quilt piece is to be brought to the reunion and placed on the quilt and has a surprise hidden in the quilt. Those who do not receive a notice will be able to get a piece at the reunion (one piece per family). Other activities are planned.
