The Alleghany Highlands Virginia Tech Alumni chapter has announced the awarding of six scholarships totaling $4,000 to area students.
Students from Alleghany High School receiving scholarships include:
– Emily Beth Ratliff, daughter of Greg and Teresa Ratliff of Clifton Forge, was awarded the LaRue Armstrong Scholarship. Emily plans to major in biology at Virginia Tech and attend pharmacy school.
– Matthew Jared Chittum, the son of William Chittum and Susan Kincaid of Covington, was awarded a Virginia Tech Alumni Scholarship. Matthew will major in engineering at Virginia Tech.
– Nathan Alexander Cole, the son of Lisa and Kevin Cole of Covington, was awarded a Virginia Tech Alumni Scholarship. Alex will major in university studies and plans to attend the school of architecture.
– Emily Catherine Lewis, daughter of Sandra and Jim Lewis of Covington, was awarded a Virginia Tech Alumni Scholarship. Emily plans to major in chemistry and attend pharmacy school.
– Anna Elizabeth Wilson, the daughter of Dawn and Ron Wilson of Covington, was awarded a Virginia Tech Alumni Scholarship. Anna has selected a major of hospitality and tourism.
Receiving the scholarship from Bath County High School was:
– Melissa Alexandra Sampson, the daughter of Dorothy Sampson and Clinton McDonald of Millboro. She was awarded a Virginia Tech Alumni Scholarship. Melissa plans to major in animal and poultry science and attend veterinary school.
The Alleghany Highlands Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association has announced its annual New Student Dinner for May 25.
The event will be held at the Main Street Shoppe in Covington, beginning at 6 p.m. with a social, dinner at 6:30 p.m. and a program at 7:15 p.m.
The cost of the event is free to incoming Virginia Tech students and $20 for alumni, family and guests.
