MANASSAS – James Oliver (Jim) Cook, 67, of 12008 Bradley Forest Road, Manassas, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at his homeplace in Sweet Chalybeate after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Jim was born January n8, 1943 in Sweet Chalybeate, a son of the late Bruce and Elizabeth Cook. He graduated from Dunlap High School and worked for a number of years in electronics before retiring.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Cook.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Peggy Porterfield Cook; one daughter, Debbie Young and husband, Charles; three sons, David Cook and wife, Teda, Mark Cook, Rickey Cook and wife, Karey, all of Manassas; two brothers, Bob Cook and wife, Charlotte, Pete Cook and wife, Linda, all of Sweet Chalybeate; one sister, Judy Howell of Iron Gate; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Home in Manassas. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
