The Alleghany boys soccer team opened their 2010 campaign with a dominating 8-0 win over Parry McCluer Wednesday at Mountaineer Field.
Six different players found the net for the Mountaineers with freshman Tanner Seay recording a hat trick in his varsity debut.
Eric Bartocci got the scoring started five minutes into the game and five minutes later Cassidy Burns found the back of the next to put AHS on top 2-0.
Five minutes later, Dillon Bess hammered one home off an assist from Zach Carroll and Chris Baker found the net a few minutes later off Tyler Farrar’s assist.
Seay scored his first goal in the 26th minute and Ivan Damulira gave Alleghany a 6-0 lead at the half with a goal off a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.
Seay scored both AHS goals in the second half to complete the hat trick. Andrew Dilley assisted on Seay’s second goal just eight minutes into the second half and Farrar assisted Seay’s third goal 12 minutes later to give Alleghany the 8-0 win after the game was called due to the mercy rule.
Steven Caldwell recorded two saves in net for the Mountaineers.
“Everybody played well,” said AHS coach Brian Berry. “Tanner had his coming out party. It’s rare for anyone to get a hat trick, but for a freshman to do it in his first varsity game says a lot about how hard he works.”
Alleghany (1-0) will have its first real test come Friday when they play host to AAA school William Fleming.
