On February 22, 2010, Hilda Bryant Morris, 88, went to join her Savior, Jesus Christ. Hilda died peacefully of natural causes at her residence in The Woodlands, Texas, with loved ones at her side. Since 2005, she had been a resident of the Forum at The Woodlands north of Houston. Prior to her move to Texas, Hilda was a nearly life-long resident of Covington.

Hilda was born May 4, 1921, in Buchanan, to Luella and Moody Pack Bryant. Her sisters, Gladys, Daisy, Elsie, Unis, Thelma, Phyllis, and Dolly and brothers, Lester, M.P., and Glynn have all preceded her in death.

She was the widow of Howard M. Morris who passed away in 1993 after 53 years of marriage.

Hilda is survived by her daughter, Gail Royster (and husband Bill) of Conroe, Texas, and son, Stacey Morris (and wife Mary Jo) of Reading, Pa. She had three grandchildren, David Love (and wife Stephanie) of College Station, Texas, Simon Morris of Downingtown, Pa., and April Morris of State College, Pa.

Hilda also had three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Tatum, and Colton Love, all of College Station, Texas. Hilda was also greatly loved and respected as “Oma” by the four Royster sons and daughters, their nine children and three grandchildren, all of the Houston area or Colorado. Hilda is also survived by sister-in-law, Gladys Bennett of Covington and brother-in-law, Leonard Morris (and wife Francis) of Hinton, W.Va. There are numerous surviving nieces and nephews. Hilda delighted in both her immediate and extended families.

Although Hilda had many interests and talents over the years, her strongest attribute was her unquestionable Christian faith. And she truly lived a Christian life. As a long-time member of the Covington Baptist Church, she was both a tireless leader and an inspiration to those who knew her. Always eager to help others, as evident by her numerous care giving activities over the years, she also served as the primary caregiver for Howard in his final years. Her service on the Salvation Army Advisory Board in Covington further demonstrated her passion to help others.

In her senior years, Hilda loved both reading and writing. She read her Bible daily along with numerous inspirational books and her love of writing produced numerous short stories and poems. A dedicated correspondent to her many friends and family members, Hilda found great joy in both sending and receiving cards and letters.

The love and Christian life that was Hilda will be dearly missed by all she touched.

A memorial service will be held at Loving Funeral Home in Covington at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Donna Coffman and the Rev. Bill Royster officiating, assisted by the Rev. Chris Poluikis. Interment will be at Hoke Chapel Cemetery following the service.

As an alternate to flowers, donations in Hilda’s name can be made to the Covington Baptist Church, P.O. Box 687, Covington, Va. 24426 or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 877, Covington, Va. 24426.

Pallbearers will be Simon Morris, April Morris, Mark Bennett, Greg Bennett, Kevin Bennett, Camilla Cabaniss, Andy Morris, and Darrell Gleason. Alternate pallbearer will be Gary Morris.

The family will receive visitors this evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
