ROANOKE – The Alleghany baseball team traveled to Northside Tuesday and dropped a Blue Ridge District contest to the Vikings in five innings, 11-1.
Northside left-hander Patrick Arnold limited the Mountaineers to just one run on one hit, while striking out six and walking four to pick up the victory on the mound.
“I was not happy with out offensive intensity,” said Alleghany coach Gary Rice. “We come into the game batting .391 and it looked like we forgot how to hit the ball.”
Most of Northside’s offensive production came out of the 2-3 spots.
Two-hole hitter Adam Hardester went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored, while three-hole hitter Trent Cundiff was a perfect 3-for-3, driving in five runs, including a three-run blast in the bottom of the third inning.
Taylor Carter took the mound loss for the Mountaineers. Carter allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits over four and a third innings pitched.
He struck out three, walked three and hit a batter.
Jerrod Groves had Alleghany’s lone hit in the third inning.
Alleghany (11-5-1, 3-2 BRD) will be back in action Friday at home against Lord Botetourt. First pitch is slated for 5:15 p.m.
