Geraldine Rose Harris, 90, 228 S. Marion Avenue, died Tuesday evening, May 18, 2010 at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor.
She was born February 5, 1920 in Covington, a daughter of the late Charles and Sadie Rose.
Mrs. Harris was the first female Deacon of Pine Street Baptist Church. She was a member of the Adult Choir and was very active on a number of committees in the church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by a grandson, Kirk Harris; three brothers, Charles Rose Jr., Robert Rose Sr. and Leroy Rose and three sisters, Mabel Jordan, Tassie White and Macelia Pollard.
Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Hezekiah Harris of Covington; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Tami Harris of Fredericksburg; one daughter, Lynn Wallace of Covington; four grandchildren, Keenan Harris, Nikola Daniels, Jerrod and Maryanne Waller and Kristna Harris and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Pine Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas S. Simmons officiating, assisted by the Rev. William O. Hickman.
The entombment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may pay their respects at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends one hour prior to service time at Pine Street Baptist Church.
