COVINGTON Va. (VR)- The City of Covington held its annual Christmas tree lighting on Sunday, Dec. 1.
The evening started with showers which topped the higher elevations with a dusting of snow. Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Worley thanked those in attendance and introduced Patsy’s Dance Studio as they performed two dances set to seasonal music. Worley then invited Edgemont Preschool to come up and lead the crowd in a Christmas sing-along.
City Manager Alan Dressler welcomed everyone and introduced Faith Reynolds, a second grader at Mountain View who had the honor of lighting the tree. The air was filled with sirens, as Santa made his special visit driving Covington Fire Department’s truck “Hezekiah.”
Those in attendance were treated to a visit with Santa along with milk and cookies. Local photography business Jeremyinaflash took pictures of those in attendance with Santa.
The Covington Christmas parade will take place in downtown Covington next Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m.
