CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) – On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Clifton Forge Town Council held its monthly meeting to address previous successful events, and upcoming holiday celebrations, and hear community updates from local organizations and citizens.
After a grand turnout in support of veterans and the Vietnam memorial, re-elected Mayor Jeff Irvine presented a proclamation to declare Oct. 1 “The Wall that Heals” Day. The council then addressed the upcoming holiday schedule and revised the town employee holidays to include an addition of Monday, Dec 23, 2024.
An update from the Parks and Trails committee shined light on the hard work the committee has been doing to make the parks safer for area citizens, the progress of broadband services at local parks, and the excitement towards an upgraded lighted sensory trail as the holidays approach.
Chuck Unroe, Town Manager, then spoke about ongoing projects including the Smith Creek waterline upgrade, upcoming VDOT collaborations, the Jefferson School Renovation Project, and the new potential food pantry design layouts.
Public comments were heard by Richard Harmeling of Rose Avenue who expressed concern over increased traffic and speeding on the narrow thoroughfare asking council to consider adding a four-way stop sign.
Susan Goings then presented an exciting opportunity for citizens to support Clifton Forge Women’s Club as they share the 2024 Holiday Home Tour with the community on Dec. 7, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Goings said the club is thankful for an opportunity to “bring holiday spirit and attract visitors to our community.” Along with the home tour, a silent auction will also be housed at the Clifton Forge School of the Arts.
In closing, council members encouraged citizens to be a part of many upcoming holiday traditions including the Kriskindlmrkt on November 22-23, the annual tree lighting festivities on Nov. 23 at 6 p.m., and the Clifton Forge Christmas Parade on Dec. 6 at 6 p.m.
