Warm Springs, VA– The Bath County Chargers wrapped up their regular season Friday evening with another win, this time over district opponent Narrows. Bath County defeated every team they faced during the regular season. Going your entire season undefeated is a huge feat itself, but the way the Chargers remain undefeated puts them on a whole other level from other undefeated schools.
Quarterback Wyatt Campbell is electric on the field, and he’s been on a roll this entire season. Wyatt averages well over one hundred yards rushing and passing per game this season and has also racked up quite a few interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.
Another beast completely designed for football greatness is Braiden Mabe. Braiden has been an absolute animal on defense, blocking punts, sacking quarterbacks, and tackling for losses. Combined with the efforts of the rest of the team, the boys from Bath have been a wrecking crew of the grid iron. They defeated the teams they played this season by a combined score of 519-49. With the win Friday evening Bath won the Pioneer District Championship and secured the number 1 seed in the Region C playoffs. This upcoming Friday, the 15th, the Chargers will face the number eight seed, Fort Chiswell.
The Fort Chiswell Pioneers have had a less than stellar season, finishing the season with a record of two wins and eight losses.
In all fairness, some of those losses came at the hands of teams with high rankings in other regions like Rye Cove, which holds the number one seed in Region D, and George Wythe, which holds the second seed in Region C. The Pioneers have leaned heavily on junior quarterback Jackson Johnson and senior running back William Martin for their offensive strength.
The 2024 Chargers are trying to accomplish a feat that has not been done since the 2001 season when their now head coach Jake Phillips led them to a state championship. Come out to Carl F Williams Field in Warm Springs and cheer for the Bath County Chargers as they chase football glory and an ever-elusive state Championship.
