Josephine Elizabeth Hughes Dellinger, age 97, of Jefferson Ave, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany.
She was born November 21, 1926 in Rockbridge County, Virginia to the late Moreau Dessaix Hughes and Minnie Gray McKemy Hughes. She was the administrative assistant for Alleghany Surgical Associates. She was a member of Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the Women of the Church, and former treasurer of the church. She was a member of Alleghany Highlands Arts Center, Clifton Forge Twilight Garden Club and Clifton Forge Women’s club. She loved to play bridge with her friends, loved to read, spending time in her flower garden, and UVA sports. Josephine enjoyed writing about the history of Clifton Forge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pershing “Booty” Dellinger; two sisters; and two brothers.
She is survived by two daughters, JoBeth Dellinger and husband, Scott Schroeter of Fayetteville, NY and Mary Gray Dellinger of Clifton Forge; three grandchildren, Maggie Campbell and husband, Chance, Elizabeth Buchanan and husband, Bobby, Jeanette Rosenberg-Smith and husband, Alex; six great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Danny Campbell, Bobby Buchanan, Chance Campbell, Morrison Manner and Marshall Higgins. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
