CLIFTON FORGE – Charles Wilson “Chuck” Linkswiler Sr., 89, of 626 West Ridgeway Street, Clifton Forge, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, January 21, 2010 at his residence, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
He was born March 9, 1920 in Alleghany County, to the late Savannas and Margaret Rose Fox Linkswiler. He was a World War II veteran who served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from Westvaco after more than 40 years of working on the number two paper machine. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and a charter member of the Lone Oak Hunt Club of the Castile area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a loving husband, father and paw paw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, C. W. Linkswiler Jr. in 1978, as well as 10 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marion Kendig Linkswiler of Clifton Forge; three daughters, Dianne L. Hopkins and husband Ric of Natural Bridge Station, Esther L. Carlton of Clifton Forge and Rebecca L. Slayton of Selma; a son-in-law, Scott Slayton of White Rock Gap, Covington; a sister, Christine Loan of Covington; six grandchildren, Don Warlitner, Eddie Warlitner, Emily B. Seldomridge, Shelly Burley-Smith, Kari Anderson and C. R. Anderson; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend, William “Punk” Combs; and caregivers Ellen Fischer and Dr. Michele Ballou.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Martin Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.
Pallbearers will be selected from friends and church members attending the service.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
