Truman Frederick Austin
Truman Frederick Austin, age 83, of 501 Broken Arrow Lane, Covington, Virginia died on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany, Low Moor.
Truman was born on June 12, 1941 in Botetourt County, Virginia to the late Hiram Simmons Austin, Sr. and Delphine Barger Austin. He served in the United States Army and received his Bachelor degree in Engineering. He was employed by Westvaco as a timekeeper for thirty-five years and was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church in Eagle Rock. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed playing softball.
In addition to his parents, Truman was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tiffany Olivia Kimberlin.
He is survived by his wife, Sally “Joann” Teaford Austin of Covington; three daughters, Pamela Austin Hall (Tony Shiflett) of Covington, Carolyn Teaford Clarkson (Bruce) of Greensboro, NC, and Sara Dell Timis of New Market; a son, Steve Austin of Covington; a sister, Betty Jo Austin Barger of Eagle Rock; two brothers, Hiram Austin, Jr. (Barbara) of Eagle Rock and Raymond Austin (Connie) of Clifton Forge; seven grandchildren, one step granddaughter, five great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM in Forest Grove Baptist Church, Eagle Rock, with Reverend Jerry Marsh officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Boiling Spring Fire and Rescue.
