The reigning Three Rivers District volleyball champion Alleghany has earned the No. 2 seed in the Class 3, Region C tournament that is set to begin on Monday, November 4th.
The Cougars earned the No. 2 seed following a 22-3 season, which also earned themselves a bye in the first round of the regional tournament.
Different to football, in volleyball, the top 12 teams earn postseason spots with the top four teams earning first round byes.
Alleghany will await the winner of Monday evenings 7-10 quarterfinal featuring No. 7 Wilson Memorial (13-7) hosting No. 10 Brookville (11-9). AHS will host the winner of that game on Wednesday, November 6th
The Cougars are very familiar with the Green Hornets. During the regular season AHS defeated WMHS twice, including in their first game of the year that went the distance in five sets.
Dating back to the 2023 season, Alleghany has won three out of their four matches with Wilson Memorial.
The Green Hornets, however, enter the regionals red hot as they are winners of nine of their last 10 matches. Meanwhile Brookville has lost five of their last seven matches.
Should Alleghany reach the regional championship game, they will have to go through the top overall seed Liberty Christian Academy. The Bulldogs earned the top-seed of the region following a 21-1 season. LCA awaits the winner of Monday’s 8-9 regional quarterfinal featuring No. 8 Broadway (15-8) and No. 9 Staunton (13-7).
The other two schools receiving byes are No. 3 East Rockingham (20-3) and No. 4 Fluvanna County (15-8).
The Eagles will host either No. 6 Western Albemarle (16-10) or No. 11 Rockbridge County (10-10). The Flying Flucos awaits the winner of the No. 5 Turner Ashby (15-8) versus No. 12 Rustburg (11-10) quarterfinal.
The semifinals will be held on Monday, November 11th, with the championship game occuring on Wednesday, November 13th at the higher seed.
