Mr. Wendell Bruce Hammond III, age 52, died March 26, 2010 at his residence in Albany, Oregon. He was the husband of Dayle Wardrip Hammond.
Bruce was born in Covington July 1, 1957 the son of Wendell B. and Joy Pearson Hammond, Jr.
He attended Edgemont Elementary School and Covington High School before graduating from Davies County High School in Owensboro, KY.
He moved to Albany, Oregon in 1981 and worked for Willamette Industries in Sweet Home and Foster, Oregon until 2005.
He will be missed as a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his parents, Wendell and Joy Hammond, and his wife, Dayle Hammond, he is survived by two daughters, Sarah and her husband, Adam Bingham and their baby girl, Nora of Independence, OR and Alex Hammond of Independence, OR; a stepson, Chris Keown and wife, Christina and their children, Kiara and Rayn of Albany, OR; a brother, Brad Hammond of Salem, OR; a friend, Tyler Stephens of Albany, OR.
Bruce was the type of person to always leave things better than when he found them, whether it be repairing a broken automobile (a hobby of his) or fixing a worried heart.
He loved animals, especially his dogs, Bob, Joe, Audrey & Caesar.
As a child, Bruce spent many summer days finding new adventures in Potts Creek; a pastime he revisited up until a few summers ago.
Bruce will be remembered for inspiring people to do right (not be right) and for imparting an appreciation for stillness – even if it is in a simple starlite sky.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mike Fleenor officiating.
Interment will follow at Carter Cemetery, Snake Run.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Stephens, Brad Hammond, Adam Bingham, Chris Keown, Jesse Carter, Rick Lodge, Jeff Hammond and Steve Redman.
