Four deputies and two master deputies were recently honored by the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office.
In the top photo, four deputies recently retired from the sheriff’s office and were honored with a special ceremony Friday at the sheriff’s office.
Those included Lt. Lonnie Robinson, Sgt. Myra McKnight, Sgt. W.G. “Gordy” Ridgeway and Capt. Steve Haynes.
Robinson joined the sheriff’s office in September 1977 and retired in July 2008 as a lieutenant, civil process.
McKnight joined the sheriff’s office on January 1, 1981 adn retired in May 2009 as a correctional officer.
Ridgeway joined the sheriff’s office on January 1, 1987 and retired in August 2009 as a shift supervisor. He previously has worked with the Covington Police Department, the Bath County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police.
Haynes joined the sheriff’s office on June 1, 1983 and retired in November 2009 as a captain, criminal investigations.
Each of the four received a plaque of appreciation and a small gift.

In the bottom photo, two deputies have achieved the rank of Master Deputy.
The two deputies, Ray Keen and Robbie Bates, were selected by a committee and must complete 40 hours of advanced training outside working hours every two years.
The two were honored in a ceremony Friday at the sheriff’s office.
