SALTVILLE – The Covington wrestling team made the long trip road trip Saturday to participate in the Northwood Invitational and finished ffith out of 11 teams.
Chilhowie won the event with 158 points, while Marion was second with 134 and Castlewood third with 128 points. Powell Valley finished fourth with 110 points, while the Cougars were fifth wih 108.5.
Host Northwood was sixth with 100, Richlands was seventh (98.5), Rural Retreat was eighth (68), Fort Chiswell ninth (36), St. Paul 10th with 32 and Rye Cove rounded out the field in 11th with 25 points.
Chris Bowden (130 pounds) was the lone champion on the day for the Cougars, while Charlie Dickson (103), Kevin Downer (119) and Alex Saunders (135) all finished second.
Cole Zamana (112) and Josh Laprade (189) both finished third.
“We wrestled well for only taking seven guys,” said Covington coach Ray Sullins. “Six of those placed in the top three.”
