CLIFTON FORGE – William Raymond “Bill” Barnette, 69, of 721 Ingalls Street, Clifton Forge, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at his residence.
Born August 20, 1940 in Atlanta, Ga., Bill was a son of the late William Wade Barnette and Vardis Summer Barnette. He attended Georgia Tech, Georgia State University, and was a graduate of Mercer University Pharmacy program in Atlanta, Ga. He retired after many years of service as a pharmacist for the former SuperX Drug Store and CVS. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was served on the administrative board and the property committee of the church.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Dowdy Barnette of Clifton Forge; a daughter, Sheri A. Barnette of Vienna; two sons, Joel W. Barnette and wife Suzanne of Blacksburg and Jeff A. Barnette and wife Colleen of Ashburn; a sister, Carol E. Cravey and husband James David of Sharpsburg, Ga.; two brothers, Morris L. Barnette and wife Shirley of Humble, Texas and Thomas Leslie Barnette and wife Darlene of LaGrange, Ga.; four grandchildren, Sean K. Barnette, Kathryn A. Barnette, Natalie A. Barnette and Drew J. Nagle; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. Barry Burkholder officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.
Pallbearers will include Billy Berberette, Rob Drewry and Gary Sheppard. Charles Hammond will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, and other times at the residence.
