Mayor Gary Craig said repairs were finished on the water lines. Craig brought up that he willingly lent his own tools so the job could be finished. He said as soon as funds become available needed items will be purchased as the town is in need of tools. He commended the men working on the water line for sticking with it and finishing the job.
Craig went on to talk about the mowing season being over due to the seasons changing but that the town’s mowers have a mulching blade. Due to this, some lots like the playground will be mulched as this is good for the ground. It makes the grass much better next year.
The mayor noted that there’s been a change to the transfer station fees. They’re adding a fee to what is called a white goods fee, which includes washers, dryers and so on. The mayor is trying to get a copy of the fees so it’s set in stone because unfortunately it will trickle down to each tenant in the town. The town can’t absorb the fees as it would be too much. The fee is coming from Alleghany County and now must be passed on the citizens.
Craig praised law enforcement as 4-12 tickets a week are being written. The mayor said two tickets were for drivers going over 50 MPH through town. The Mayor noted, if you see law enforcement out, be sure to offer water and say thank you.
