Alexander William Tyler, 88, of 318 South Marion Avenue, died May 19, 2010, in the Golden Living Center in Clifton Forge.
Mr. Tyler was born November 15, 1921 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late Milton and Nannie Johnson Tyler.
He had retired from Westvaco as a truck driver in 1984 after 39 years with the company.
He was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church where he had served on the Trustee Board and the Usher Board.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Wallace Tyler, in 2008.
Surviving are his son, Alexander W. “Butch” Tyler Jr. and his wife, Elvira, of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Brandon Tyler and Rachel Tyler, both of Portsmouth; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Rose Tyler of Wichita, Kan., and Freddie and Frances Tyler of Goochland; two sisters, Edro Tyler of Washington, D.C. and Lula Cobbs of New Jersey and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 12 noon in the Pine Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas S. Simmons officiating.
Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park.
