Events Scheduled For The Alleghany Highlands

Events scheduled in the Highlands and adjoining communities over the weekend include the following:

ED ASNER: “FDR”: Award winning actor Ed Asner will star in “FDR” Monday in a performance at Covington High School. Sponsored by the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council, this is the final performance of the 2009-10 season. The performance begins at 8 p. m. Tickets are on sale at Music Unlimited, Gettin’ Place, Owen’s Pharmacy and the Arts Council office in Steller One Bank building. For information call 962-6220.

CABARET: Michael Sharp of Bath County will present a cabaret evening at Greenbrier Valley Theatre Friday at the theater on Washington Street in Lewisburg, W. Va. The production is part of Lewisburg’s 4th annual Chocolate Festival. For information call 304-645-3838; www.gvtheatre.org.

CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL: The 4th annual Chocolate Festival in Lewisburg, W. Va. will be held Saturday from 11 a.m to 4 p. m. with activities for all ages throughout the day in the downtown area. For a complete schedule of events visit www.lewisburgchocolatefestival.com.

10K RACE: Hospice Care of Greenbrier Valley will sponsor the 17th annual HospiceCare 10K race Saturday in Lewisburg, W. Va. as part of the 4th annual Chocolate Festival. The race begins at the Greenbrier Valley Airport with registration at 8 a. m. For information call 800-833-2068 or visit the Web site: www.lewisburgchocolatefestival.com.

DEPOT MUSEUM: The Alleghany Historical Society’s museum and headquarters in the former C&O Depot on Maple Avenue in Covington has an exhibit of reproduction of Civil War clothing on display. The exhibit will conclude at the end of the month.

The museum is open Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 p. m. There is no admission charge. The museum will not be open this Sunday. The Historical Society will hold its quarterly meeting Sunday at the Masonic Theatre in Clifton Forge beginning at 3 p. m.

C&O HERITAGE CENTER: The C&O Heritage Center in Clifton Forge offers exhibits daily on C&O history and has an extensive O gauge model train layout on display. The center is housed in the remodeled Smith Creek Yard Freight Depot. Hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. and Sunday 1 to 4 p. m. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children between 3 and 12, and children under 3 free.
