Bessie Elaine (Beth) Thompson Johnson
Bessie Elaine (Beth) Thompson Johnson, age 93 went to be with the Lord on September 23, 2024. She is preceded by her loving husband, Harold L. Johnson; and by her parents, Ida and Elmer Thompson, Sr. of Covington, VA.
Bessie graduated from Dunlap High School as Valedictorian. She went to nursing school and graduated with honors and received her RN degree after passing her state boards. Her school sent her to Medical College of Virginia for a special course in Phycology. Later she became licensed as a Registered Nurse in 3 states. Her last professional job was as a charge nurse for 10 years at a 200-bed southside Richmond nursing Home. Beth Mentored students at southside Richmond Schools and volunteered at the food pantry at Walmsley United Methodist Church. She and her husband Harold, worked with Meals on Wheels for 10 years.
Bessie had 7 siblings, Robert, Gladstone, Alvie, Eldon, Elmer Jr., and Rosemary Bryant, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Cristle Alfred of Alachua Florida; nephew, Jeffry Alfred Sandford of Seattle, WA; cousin, Reba Troxell Rapp; sisters-in-law, Margie Thompson and Darlene Thompson all from Covington, VA.; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service on Thursday, October 03, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Dale Memorial Park, 1201 Newbys Bridge RD, Chesterfield, VA, 23832.
