David Andrews Spangler, 66, of Goshen, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at his residence.

He was born June 12, 1943 in Montgomery County, a son of the late Isaac Eldridge Spangler and Ethel Beatrice Craighead Spangler.

David was retired truck driver with Landford Brothers, Inc. in Roanoke. He was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Billy Eugene, Paul David, Avis Lee, James Arnold, Bernard Mathew and Howard Kenneth.

Surviving are his wife, Theresa Ann Bowen Spangler of Goshen; one son ,Steven Lee Spangler and his wife, Sherry of Rocky Mount; one daughter, Shawn Marie Altice of Martinsville; a cousin, Debra Jenks who lives in the home and helped Dave crossover and is helping Theresa through her grief;, one stepdaughter, Julie Maria Woodson Nicely McCauley and her husband, Gary of Goshen; Desara Gomas of Martinsville; grandson, Gary Andrew Nicely; granddaughter, Tara Nichole”Nickie” Nicely; stepson, Roy Andrew Woodson and his wife Olivia; granddaughters, Ashley Dawn Woodson and Samantha Leighann Woodson, grandson, Anthony James Woodson; stepson, grandson; Terry Ellis Woodson; grandson Luke Chandler Woodson all of Goshen; three brothers, John Winfield of Salem; Joanthan Wainwrieht of Blacksburg ; and Ray Spangler of Shawsville; one sister, Rufus Haymaker and her husband Wayne of Virginia Beach and two self-adopted brothers, Joe Harris and Peter Warren of Waynesboro.

In keeping with David’s wishes, his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday evening at 6 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sebby Volpe officiating.

Following the service, the family will receive their friends.
