Richard Lewis Terrell, Sr.
Richard Lewis Terrell, Sr., age 87, of Covington, Virginia died Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Richard was born on February 5, 1937, in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Catherine Furry Terrell Paitsel and Johnnie Terrell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, John Daley Terrell and Richard Lewis “Ricky” Terrell, Jr.; his step-father, Earl Griffith Paitsel; and his sister, Peggy Linkswiler Corral.
Richard retired from Westvaco as a team leader on Number 5 Paper Machine. In retirement, he enjoyed walking, often up to ten miles a day, in his neighborhood of Valley Ridge, waving at everyone who passed by. Richard was a faithful member of Low Moor Presbyterian Church, and took pride in reading his Bible every day.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jane Downey Terrell; a daughter, Tricia Patterson (Gene); a son, Kevin Terrell (Heather); a daughter-in-law, Susan Terrell; five grandchildren, Shana Hatzopoulos, John David Terrell, Emily Anderson, Meredith Williams, and Daley Terrell; and three great-grandchildren, Nicolas Hatzopoulos, Christina Terrell, and Brianna Terrell.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Lisa Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
