As the House Republicans continued to work diligently to pass critical bills to benefit Americans, we took time to recognize Constitution Day last week. Additionally, I am excited to share that my bipartisan Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act successfully passed out of the Judiciary Committee. As we continue to address the challenges facing our communities, we must acknowledge the alarming rise of violence and dangerous illegal migrants who have entered our neighborhoods, putting women and families at risk. I was also honored to receive the Guardian of Small Business award for my work in support of small businesses across the Sixth District. We also honored National POW/MIA Recognition Day. As always, it was great meeting with different groups and organizations to discuss critical issues facing Virginia’s Sixth District. As we prepare for our final week in Washington before the October district work period, know that I will continue to fight tirelessly for the best interests of the Commonwealth and Nation.
Aiding Our Small Businesses
Last week, I was glad to see my Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act pass the House Judiciary Committee. This important legislation puts the needs of small businesses front and center by requiring federal agencies to carefully evaluate how their regulations could negatively impact small businesses and find ways to minimize unnecessary burdens.
As many of you know, small businesses are the backbone of our economy. In Virginia, we have over 800,000 small businesses, employing 1.6 million hardworking Virginians and making up an astonishing 99.5% of all businesses in our Commonwealth.
It’s time to cut the bureaucratic red tape that holds our small businesses back. My bill not only streamlines regulations but also establishes small business review panels for major rules, giving our entrepreneurs a crucial seat at the table and a voice in the regulatory process. We must continue to cut spending, eliminate bureaucratic red tape, and ease regulatory burdens so our small businesses can thrive.
Protecting Women Against Violence By Illegal Aliens
Last week, House Republicans passed, and I proudly voted in favor of, the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act. This bill is part of our ongoing efforts to secure our borders and protect American lives. Since the Biden-Harris Administration took office, our border security has drastically deteriorated, with over 10.1 million illegal encounters reported nationwide. This crisis has led to heartbreaking incidents where illegal migrants have perpetrated horrific crimes, including the tragic killing of several American women.
It’s unacceptable that individuals, especially illegal aliens, who commit serious crimes are allowed to remain in our country. This bill is crucial because it ensures that non-citizens who pose a danger due to past convictions or admissions of serious crimes are not allowed entry into or remain in the United States.
Since this Administration took office, 378 individuals on the terrorist watchlist have been caught attempting to enter our country illegally. Just as concerning, there have been over 2 million known gotaways who have successfully evaded Border Patrol that we know nothing about. We must take decisive action to protect our communities, especially women and children. House Republicans are committed to fighting for strong immigration laws that uphold our values: protecting Americans and deporting criminals.
2024 Guardian of Small Business Award
I’m honored to receive the 2024 Guardian of Small Business award from the National Federation of Independent Business. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and protecting Main Street is a top priority. I will continue to fight for America’s small businesses.
Constitution Day
This Constitution Day, we honor the vision and sacrifices of our Founding Fathers. For 237 years, their legacy has forged a path toward liberty and laid the foundation to make America the freest nation in the world, uniting We the People in pursuit of a more perfect union. I will continue to stand for and defend our Constitution and fight to ensure Americans’ rights are protected.
Honoring POW/MIA Recognition Day
In recognition of National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we honor the brave men and women who were prisoners of war and those still missing in action. We must never forget their service, sacrifice, and courage as they selflessly fought to defend our nation and uphold the freedoms we cherish.
