WARM SPRINGS- The Bath County Chargers have looked unstoppable on the football field this season. They have four blowout victories out of four games they have played thus far.
Wyatt Superman Campbell is having the type of senior year that everybody predicted he would have. He’s been absolutely elusive breaking ankles left and right with his split-second cuts and leaving defenders in the dust with his breakaway speed. That is only one dimension of his talent, though. The young man has an absolute cannon for an arm. He has thrown some of the nicest passes with the tightest spirals you will ever see on a high school football field. Campbell is just one piece of the Charger’s puzzle though.
Their offensive and defensive lines have won them games because they have 100% controlled the line of scrimmage. On offense, Campbell and running back Ethan Bryant have had nice big holes to run through and the former is normally able on pass plays to sit back and throw in the pocket. Teams can only enjoy those luxuries when their Hoss’s are winning the battle up front. The Chargers have now outscored their opponents 220 to 18, an almost unbelievable figure.
Roanoke Catholic has a new leader this year in Howard Tucker. He’s got a lot of football coaching experience and found a great deal of success as a middle school and recreation league football coach. Along with his fresh staff they bring in a ton of football experience and a military style attitude to the game. Through new offensive and defensive schemes, they have managed two wins, and two losses start to the season playing against some tough opponents.
The Celtics and Chargers will face off at Bath County High School on Friday evening the 27th, at 7:00PM. The parking lots and bleachers have been filling fast so be sure to get an early start and come out and cheer on your undefeated Chargers.
