Valborg Ailstock (née Bustad)
Valborg Ailstock (née Bustad) a former resident of Covington, VA, passed away on August 21, 2024 at the age of 96 after a brief illness.
Valborg was born on March 15, 1928 in Lokken Verk, Norway where her father worked as an electrician in the local copper mine and her mother was a homemaker. Valborg was the youngest of six children and, as a young teenager, lived through the German occupation of Norway during World War II. Valborg was educated in Norway as a nurse specializing in the care of newborn infants. Her nursing skills and love of children
eventually lead her to work as a Governess for a Norwegian Military Family. She moved from Norway to Washington DC in 1958 with the family where she met her future husband, Richard Ailstock, a native of Covington. They were married in Charlottesville, Virginia at the University Chapel on May 28, 1960. After getting married, they made their home in Northern Virginia and had two sons. Valborg took on the very traditional role as housewife caring for the children and the household. She enjoyed fashion, reading, cooking, baking and entertaining.
Richard and Valborg eventually moved back to Covington in 1998 residing in Rosedale after Richard retired. Richard and Valborg were married for 51 years before Richard passed away in 2011. Valborg moved to West Palm Beach Florida after Richard’s passing where she lived until April of this year. Valborg was most recently living in an Assisted Living Facility in Fairfax Virginia.
Valborg is survived by her sons Erik Ailstock and Conrad Ailstock, son-in-law Dr. Stephen Rosenfeld, daughter-in-law Tam Nguyen, and two grandchildren, Brian Ailstock and Pauline Ailstock.
Valborg’s remains were cremated.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
