The Alleghany girls tennis team picked up a 7-2 win over the Bath County girls Tuesday at Clifton Middle School.
Amelia Walters got Bath off to a good start with an 8-2 win over Alleghany’s Rachelle Casstevens at the No. 1 singles.
But Alleghany’s Tiffany Thompson, Alex Chrisco, Emily Lewis, Loren Conner and Dawn Dulaney won each of their singles matches to give Alleghany a commanding 5-1 lead heading into the doubles.
The Alleghany duo of Casstevens/Thompson knocked off Walters/Jennifer Gutting at the No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Lewis/Chrisco topped Courtney Maliwauki/Katy Cox, 8-1, and Bath’s Sarah Wright/Melanie Baughan beat Alleghany’s Esther Allman/Lindsay Bethel, 9-7.
“My girls just keep amazing me with how well they are playing,” said Alleghany coach Jackie Almarode.
Alleghany will be back in action Thursday at Greenbrier East at 4:30 p.m.
