David Allen Brown
David Allen Brown, 64, cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, with his beloved family at his bedside. David is at rest in the arms of our Lord after a long and hard- fought battle with cancer.
A native of Clifton Forge, he was son of the late Donald and Edith Brackenridge Brown. David worked for CSX Transportation as a track foreman for many years. David was a lover of nature and gardening, and enjoyed fishing and hunting whenever he could. He searched every field he
ever passed for that perfect buck. David was an especially talented mechanic, and could fix any type of defunct machinery brought to him. He loved to tinker in his yard and garage, and taught his son and countless others everything he could about all his talents and special skills.
David adored his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and was always able to effortlessly connect with anyone, especially those young at heart. He was quick-witted and funny, always ready with a (sometimes dirty) joke and a hearty laugh. David was a dedicated servant of Jesus Christ, not just in words, but through his daily service of others. He was kind and he was thoughtful, and he sought to help others even in his ailing months. He was a member of Horeb Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kevin and Daniel Brown; an infant granddaughter, Moriah Brown-Holloway; and brother-in-law, Gary Anderson.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 31 years, Shari Anderson Brown of Clifton Forge; son, James Moore and his wife, Erica, of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Jennifer Brown of Clifton Forge; son, D. Andrew Brown, and his wife, Katie, of Courtland, VA; stepdaughter, Melissa Guill of Newport News, VA; stepson, Steven Guill, and his wife, Aimee, of Midlothian, VA; his grandchildren, Trevor Brown, Lily Moore, Maggie Moore, Hunter Moore, Coleman Brown, Lindsay Brown, Bennett Brown, Alice Kate Brown, and soon-to-be baby girl, Lois Guill; four sisters, Pam Thurston (David) and Cindy Hayslett (Lonnie), both of Eagle Rock, and Dreama Robinson and Mary Jo Irvin (Larry), both of Clifton Forge; a brother, Barry Brown (Irma) of Clifton Forge; mother-in-law, Phyllis Anderson of Hampton, VA; sisters-in-law, Cathy Anderson of Newport News, VA, and Jodi Ward (Michael) of York County, VA; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Tristan Madison.
A memorial service will be held on Monday September 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with Mr. Josh Madison officiating. Following the service, and pursuant to David’s wishes, his body will be cremated. The family will receive friends at the Nicely Funeral Home an hour prior to the service, and suggests that memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
