HOT SPRINGS - Robert “Bob” J. Hoover, 87, of 347 Tuke Lane, Hot Springs, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 at his residence.
He was born June 23, 1922, in Hot Springs, the son of the late Henry P. Hoover and Stella Smith Hoover.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. In 1947, he started Hot Springs Taxi Service. In 1954, he moved to White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., where he was the owner and operator of Taxi Incorporated and the Greenbrier Valley Airport Limousine Service. In 1985, he retired and moved back to Hot Springs to the family farm “Needmore Farm” in Alleghany County. Farming was his passion. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. Mr. Hoover was past president of the Chamber of Commerce in White Sulphur Springs and a member of the Rotary Club in White Sulphur Springs.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen M. Hoover, whom he married Nov. 23, 1952; a son, Jeffrey Hoover of Hot Springs; and two grandchildren, Amy and Autumn Hoover of Hot Springs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
A funeral service will be conducted today at 2 p.m. today at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home in Hot Springs, with John Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Cauley, Jerry May, Frankie Broce, Bobby Witt, Doug Auld and Joe Lockridge. Military honors will be provided by the Curtis A. Smith Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1033.
The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home.
