COVINGTON – It’s been a relatively easy first two weeks of the high school football season for Alleghany.
The Cougars, having traveled up I-81 and into the Shenandoah Valley, were winners in their first two games (both away) by wide margins as they defeated both Waynesboro and Fort Defiance by identical scores of 47-13 in each non-district football game.
Now entering the third week of the season, Alleghany who defeated two schools from the Shenandoah District will look to knock off Rockbridge County of the Valley District as the Cougars for the first time this year will be at home.
The last time the Cougars were out on the field at Casey Field at Boodie Albert Stadium, AHS lost their regional first-round matchup to Rustburg 40-29.
It’s been a rough start to the season for Rockbridge County as the Wildcats have started out the season 0-2 following losses to Buffalo Gap and Staunton. The rough start for the Wildcats does not get any easier as they play an Alleghany team who is so versatile with their explosive offense and their physical defense.
Last year Rockbridge County lost to Alleghany 55-8.
With the way quarterback Des Jordan has been playing, the Wildcats stand little chance in cooling down the junior QB. Jordan is off to a hot start to the season. In his first two games of the season Jordan has 11 touchdowns with six coming on the ground and five in the air.
Expect to see more from Jordan and his offensive weapons, including senior XZavier Hayslett who leads the team with over 200-yds receiving.
Alleghany should once again steamroll their way to their third victory.
