SALEM – Not even the weather was going to prevent Floyd County from being the top team last Thursday as the Buffaloes won the Three Rivers District event at the Hanging Rock Golf Club in Salem by shooting a team best 292 in a shortened 9-hole outing.
Floyd County held off Radford 292-318. The two schools continue to finish 1-2 outside of one event where Radford finished fourth.
The Buffaloes have now won all six TRD events and continue to look like a team on a mission to once again bring home a state championship.
While Floyd County won the event, it was the Bobcats Hunter Crist, who for the second straight TRD outing was the medalist as he shot an individual’s best 33 for 2-under par.
Glenvar had their best team finish since the Great Oaks Club event when they finished second. The Highlanders placed third at the Hanging Rock Golf Club event after shooting 324 as a team.
Alleghany was once again around where they have been all season long, in the top four as they placed fourth following a team 332. Haden Spinks led the Cougars with a team-best 39 for the afternoon. Kai Rowland and Landon Arritt tied for second with a 41, while Jacob Morris carded with a 45.
The Cougars who finished fourth held off Carroll County who shot a 334 as a team. Patrick County was sixth with a 342, and James River rounded out the event with a 350.
Alleghany is back on the green on Wednesday with a TRD event at the Olde Mill Golf Resort. The Cougars finished fourth with a 366 the first time at Olde Mill.
It’s worth noting to put out that the scores were doubled based on their 9-hole performances. For example, Alleghany originally scored a 166, but needing to determine an 18-hole score, all teams original score was doubled.
