Shirley Balsley Bowen Sorrells, 73, of Covington, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at her daughter’s residence.

She was born July 17, 1936 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late A.C Balsley and Alma Wolfe Balsley
Mrs.

Sorrells was a driver for Professional Transportation Inc.

Shirley was a member of the Good News Christian Fellowship Church and Women of the Moose Ladies Chapter 911. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was survived by her husband, Charles Eugene “Gene” Sorrells in 1999; a son, Everette Kent Bowen Jr.; a daughter, Theresa Ann Spangler and also two sisters, Elaine Cronk and Halcie Fridley.

Surviving are her daughter, Donna Sorrells Swain and her husband, Brian of Covington; her son, Karl Balsley Bowen and his wife, Betty of Goshen; grandchildren, Julie and Gary McCauley, Andy and Olivia Woodson, Terry E. Woodson, Jessica L. Bowen, Kevin K. Bowen, Charles Kent Bullock and Brian Eugene Swain; great-grandchildren, Gary A. Nicely, Ashley D. Woodson, Tera N. Nicely, Luke C. Woodson, Samantha L. Woodson and Anthony J. Woodson.

In keeping with Mrs. Sorrells wishes, her body will be cremated after the funeral service.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Noel officiating.

The family will receive their friends following the service at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Donna Swain at 723 N. Greenbrier Ave.

The family suggests that memorial donations in Mrs. Sorrells name be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422 or to Good News Christian Fellowship Church, 214 S. Lexington Ave., Covington, Va. 24426.
