Daryl Wayne Burkholder
Daryl Wayne Burkholder, 70, of Covington passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 24, 2024. He was the husband of Debra T. Burkholder.
Daryl was born Tuesday, June 15, 1954, in Covington, a son of the late Bennie Hilston Burkholder and Edna Darlene (Phillips) Burkholder. He was the owner and operator of Burkholder Electric and provided electrical services to many residents, businesses, and local government agencies for the City of Covington, Alleghany County, and Clifton Forge communities. He also was an adjunct instructor for the Jackson River Technical Center and Dabney S. Lancaster Community College (now known as Mountain Gateway Community College) where he taught many classes for the Electrical Program and the National Electrical Code. Daryl also owned and operated DBET Updates where he provided continuing education to
electrical tradesmen all over the state of Virginia for the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, also known as the DPOR. Many people in his career referred to him as the “Electrician’s Electrician” because of his experience in his field. Daryl loved vacationing with his family, most especially to the beach. He was a gifted musician and music played a great part in his life. He was in many bands over the years and later taught his son, Daryn, to play the guitar at a young age and they both played many shows and worked on music together with Sara, his daughter-in-law. Most recently, he loved to play the guitar for his baby grandson, Henry, whom he was already beginning to introduce music to into his life. Most importantly of all, Daryl was a devout believer, very strong in his faith in his Lord and Savior and was exceptionally gifted with wisdom when it came to understanding and educating others about the bible. He left a lasting impression and impacted all of the lives that he touched. He lived his life being kind and taking care of all the people that he knew and loved no matter what the need was. He was very genuine and always greeted others with the same love and warmth and brought happiness and a smile to everyone’s face any time they met
him.
In addition to his wife, Debbie, he is survived by his daughter, Dabreyl “Bre” Burkholder Armentrout and son, Daryn Wayne Burkholder and wife, Sara; grandson, Henry Ryan Burkholder; brother, Trent Burkholder, and wife, Beth; sister-in-law, Debbie Burkholder; uncle, Carlos Phillips; aunt, Eula Tate; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews as well as many, many friends.
In addition to his parents Bennie and Edna Darlene, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald “Donnie” Burkholder, Samuel “Sammy” Burkholder, and Danny Luke Burkholder, Sr.; and sister, Janet Burkholder Folks.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington, Virginia with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the J.B. Broughman Memorial Scholarship Fund, Jeter-Watson Elementary School, 560 W. Indian Valley Road, Covington, VA 24426.
