RENICK, W.Va. (AP) – Authorities have rescued seven bear hunters who were trapped by the weekend storm at three camps on Cold Knob Mountain in Greenbrier County.
Greenbrier County Emergency Services Director Al Whittaker says hunters at two camps were rescued late Monday. The remaining hunters at a third camp were rescued Tuesday afternoon.
None of the hunters was injured.
Whittaker says more than 3 feet of snow, along with drifts of up to 7 feet in some places, prevented the hunters from leaving the mountain.
One hunter was able to contact a Division of Natural Resources officer by radio Saturday afternoon. But rescuers couldn’t get to the camps until Monday and Tuesday.
