Emma Jane Martin
Emma Jane Martin, 83, of Clifton Forge, passed away surrounded by her loving family at her home on August 15, 2024. She was born on June 28, 1941, in Beckley, West Virginia to the late Sid and Arbutis Toney, her beloved mother and father.
Emma dedicated her entire life to working hard as a medical assistant with Dr. Raymond Claterbaugh for 34 years, where she loved her time meeting and taking care of their many friends and patients. Following Dr. Claterbaugh’s retirement, she worked for and became great friends with Dr. Scott Brown. She was known as Nanny to all and cherished every moment taking care of her large family and many friends. She loved sunbathing by the pool, shopping, making trips to Sam’s, going out to eat, finding deals at yard sales, cleaning, decorating her tree for all of the holidays, watching and cheering on her three boys as they played various sports growing up, spending time with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, talking on the phone for hours with her sisters, Kay, Peggy, Becky, Nancy, Margie, and her best friend Loretha Stinespring, as well as lying on the couch under a warm, fuzzy blanket either watching Days of Our Lives or scrolling on Facebook on her phone while sipping on a cold Coca Cola and enjoying a bag of Lay’s potato chips or a Little Debbie.
In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Hank Via; two brothers, David Toney and Bobby Toney and his wife Jane Toney; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Guzzello and Paul Boufard, and two daughters-in-law, Sharon Martin and Judi Martin.
Emma is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Clyde R. Martin; 3 sons, Tony Martin, Daryl Martin and wife Mary Lynn, and David Martin; grandchildren, Timothy Martin, Dustin Martin and wife Crystal, Kristen Bousman and husband Chris, Michael Martin and wife Lauren, Paige Bradley and husband Seth, Alston Martin and Bri Nardone, Abby Martin and Erik Honaker, Travis Case and family, and Kiley McCall and family; great-grandchildren, Emma Martin, Haddie Martin, and Caroline Martin, Lexi Martin and Kadence Bousman, Lily Martin and Caleb Martin, and Parker Bradley and Easton Bradley; sisters Peggy Guzzello, Becky Boufard, Nancy Davis and husband Dennis, Margie Baldridge, and sister-in-law, Kathy Toney; brothers, John Toney and wife Judy, and Troy Toney and Mary Warren; special nephews Greg Via and Todd Via, and special niece Susan Toney, as well as other nieces, nephews, family, and numerous friends. She loved her Roxbury Street family and special friends Stella Clark and Mary George. Last but certainly not least, she cherished and adored her pet chihuahuas Chief and Luther.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Mike Warren officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 1:30 PM until the service begins. Following the service, her body will be cremated.
