Willard Lake Camp, 98, of Cliftondale Park, a much loved husband to his lovely wife, Sarah for more than 78 years, proud father of three sons, Tim, Dan, and Will, and loving grandfather to three generations of grandchildren, died peacefully in his sleep of age related natural causes on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.
Born on September 21, 1925 in Alvon, West Virginia, Camp served with distinction as a sergeant in the Air Warning Battalion of the United States Army stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. Later in life, he also served as Chaplain, and was a very active member of VFW Post 4299 in Clifton Forge, Virginia. In that capacity, he was instrumental in bringing to life the VFW Post 4299 Veterans Memorial Park located in the heart of Clifton Forge. Professionally, he spent the greater portion of his career with Westvaco in Covington, serving in a variety of positions of responsibility and most recently, prior to his retirement, as Foreman in the Recovery Department. For several years, he was very active in and a deacon of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church in Covington. Mr. Camp was a knowledgeable, passionate, and avid coin collector, a fisherman, and sportsman, while most enjoying the time he spent with his grandchildren imparting his love of these endeavors.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Ann Clark Camp; three sons, Willard Lake Camp, Jr., Daniel Frederick Camp, and Timothy Paul Camp (and wife, Mary); six grandchildren, Adam, Brad, Kristi, Lauren, Jeremey, and Angela; five great grandchildren, Brianna, Luke, Braden, Briana, and Lake; a great-great granddaughter, Lola; and three brothers, Reverend Lloyd Camp, Eugene Camp, and Glenn Camp.
In addition to his parents Berdie Mae Campbell Camp and Frederick Oliver Camp, he was preceded in death by siblings, Theodore, Oliver, and Marceline.
He was truly a unique, genuine, and special individual, one whose absence among us will create a void impossible to fill, and never to be forgotten.
