Clell R. Clemons, Jr.
Clell R. Clemons Jr. known simply as Sam to his friends, has gone home to be with the Lord.
Born in Alexandria, Virginia on Oct 30, 1934 Sam died on July 20, 2024 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
He lived life fully and ran a good race over 89 years. A man of the mountains, Sam loved his home and restaurant, Eagle Nest. He loved the Lord and people, serving them at Alleghany United Methodist Church as well as as a counselor at the Virginia Employment Commission and Falling Springs High School.
A Captain in the Air Force Reserve, Sam began as a cadet at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he later received his PhD. in Education for Career Counseling. How he enjoyed reading and discussing everything under the sun! He said the news and politics were his favorite sports.
He loved his family and is survived by his sons: David Stoughton Clemons, and Clell R Clemons III; his grandchildren: Clell R. Clemons IV, Anna Ridgley Standafer and her husband Harry; and former wife: Janice W. Clemons.
Clell Jr. was predeceased by his father, Clell R. Clemons Sr., his mother, Ellen Holmes Ridgely Clemons and brother, David W. Clemons.
An outdoorsman, good company in fair weather or foul, Sam smiled and joked as he: Rode horses through mountain trails, Canoed the New and James Rivers, Sailed the Pamlico Sound and Camped with family on his field. Sam shared the good news of Jesus Christ and he exemplified the fruit of the spirit.
