David Lee Arritt of Arritt Funeral Home in Covington recently qualified for recertification as a certified funeral service practitioner by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice.
A number of professions grant special recognition to members upon completion of specified academic and processional programs. Certified funeral service practitioner is the funeral service’s national individual recognition.
The Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice, since its founding in 1976, has established several goals including:
– Recognition of practitioners who have voluntarily entered a program of personal and professional growth.
– Raising and improving standards of funeral service.
– Encouraging practitioner to make continuing education a life-long process in their own self-interest, the interest of families they serve and the communities they serve.
To initially receive the award, Arritt completed a 180-hour program of continuing education activities and events. In addition, Arritt is required to accumulate 20 hours of work per year to recertify.
Credits are awarded by the academy for work that leads to personal and professional growth in four areas: academic activities, professional activities, career review for retroactive credit and community and civic activities.
Certified practitioner may use the CFSP designation with their names for business letterheads, professional cards and other appropriate uses. Certification is for individuals only and it not used to imply certification of a firm.
