OXON HILL, Md. – Mr. Gervis “Buddy” Errington Perkins Jr., 65, of Oxon Hill, Md., passed away Nov. 30, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer at Inova Alexandria Hospital, Alexandria. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.
“Buddy” was born on June 11, 1945 in Covington to the late Gervis Errington Perkins Sr. and Frances Louise Dobson Perkins.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 23 years Dessie “Dee” Perkins of Oxon Hill, Md. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two loving daughters, Yanna DeVenus Brazey and Aluveller Gervese Perkins both of Washington, D.C.; six loving grandsons Anthony Richard, Alexander RaShean, Amir Rashaad, and Aaron Jahmal Bernard Perkins, all of Washington, D.C., Jaden Etienne Brazey and Jediah Allen both of Washington, D.C.; two stepdaughters and one step-son. Also, four sisters, Nancy (“Jimmy”) Washington-Nicholson of Roosevelt, N.Y., Elder Emily Brown of Desoto, Texas, Bernedia (George) P. Minor of Covington, and Chiquita White of Washington, D.C.; a brother Bishop Dr. Michael (Jamie) A. Perkins Sr. of Arlington, Texas. Aunt Ardelia Thompson of Covington; three uncles, Mr. Ira (Mary) Dobson Jr. of Covington, Forrest (Annie) Dobson of Buffalo, N.Y., Robert (Charlene) Dobson Sr. of Christiansburg and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
“Buddy” attended the former Watson High School graduating with honors. He was employed briefly at the Homestead Hotel after which he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. Upon leaving the military “Buddy” relocated to Washington, D.C. He attended the University of The District of Columbia in Washington, D.C. He was employed the Smithsonian Institute and later was employed by the D.C. Public Schools and the Office of Acquisition and Procurement of the United States Government as a Budget Analyst. In his position as a Budget Analyst “Buddy” worked daily to save billions of dollars for the government and later retired in 2007.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Cedar Hill Funeral Home, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, Md. On Dec. 8, there will be a viewing from 10 until 11 a.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m.
