The first ever Chessie Car Show was presented on July 13, 2024 at the C&O Railway Heritage Center in Clifton Forge VA. This event was a joint venture between the C&O Historical Society and the Alleghany Cruisers. This event was a fund raiser for the C&O Historical Society.
It was a very warm day, yet many people came out to enjoy this new event in the Alleghany Highlands. A total of 53 show vehicles were on hand.
Visitors were also able to enjoy the many exhibits available at the C&O Heritage Center along with a live D.J. and participate in a “Chinese” auction. Many of the car show attendee’s, young and old, took the opportunity to take a ride on the Little C&O train while at the event. The little train proved to be a big hit.
“This was probably one of the most enjoyable events that I have ever been involved in.”: said Alleghany Cruisers President Robert Floyd.
“Everywhere I looked I saw happy people enjoying the day. The Heritage Center has so much to offer when it comes to railroad and local history. When you combine that with the car show, it made for a great day.”
The C&O Historical Society was very pleased with the event. The fund-raising efforts were very successful and many people visited the Heritage Center for the first time.
“I have to say that the first Chessie Car Show went beyond our expectations.” said Wendy Montgomery of the C&O Historical Society. “We
cannot put into words how thankful we are for the Alleghany Cruisers and all of the help that they gave us.”
Mark Totten, the president of the C&O Historical Society was in attendance for the Chessie Car Show and also commented on the event.
“I am beyond thrilled with how well the car show went over.” : commented Totten.
Plans are already underway for the 2nd Annual Chessie Car Show which will be held on July 12, 2025.
