Hugh “Sonny the Plumber” Carson Ryder, 71, of 348 East Prospect St., Covington, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor.

He was born August 15, 1938 in Bath County, the son of the late Roscoe Coy Ryder Sr. and Martha (Robertson) Ryder. He was married to the late Joyce Marie Ryder, who preceded him in death March 16, 2001.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home in Hot Springs with the Rev. Nathan Miller officiating. Interment will be in Chimney Run Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Duncan, Tony Hannah, Danny Ryder, Kevin Ryder, Mike Ryder and Douglas Sams.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home.
