Clarence Reginald Gibson, 82, of 824 Brussels Ave., Clifton Forge died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at his residence.
He was born in Clifton Forge, May 13, 1927, a son of the late William Lewis and Naomi Howard Gibson.
He was a retired section storekeeper with CSX Transportation in Clifton Forge. He was a member of Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church and was a strong song leader in the church. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theatre of Operation during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Buchanan Gibson of Clifton Forge; a daughter, Charlotte Louise Gibson Dillon of Clifton Forge; four sisters, Lois Ford of Charleston, W.Va., Margaret Dame of Selma, Katherine Van Ness of Clifton Forge and JoAnne Scobee of La Junta, Colo.; a brother, William “Billy” Gibson of Yelm, Wash.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special caregivers Sherry Fridley, Steve Wilmer, Jeannie Boguess and Betty Dudley.
Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Childs and Eleanor Kindt; brothers, Richard Gibson, Charles H. Gibson and Robert Bernard “Bernie” Gibson; and grandchild, Timothy Rock.
A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. this morning in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with Bill Colvin and the Rev. Paul Brokaw officiating. Interment followed in Mountain View Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Blair Nicely, Tommy Vest, Chad Nicely, David Buchanan, Michael Buchanan, Sam Anderson, Bobby Buchanan and Brian Buchanan.
The family visited with friends Sunday evening at Nicely Funeral Home.
