LOW MOOR – Proposed Federal Emergency Management Agency flood insurance rate maps are available for viewing on the Internet at www.rampp-team.com/va.htm.
To view the digital maps, click “Interactive Flood Map Index,” and choose the panel for the area of Alleghany County that contains your property.
The maps have been overlaid with aerial photography to provide a more realistic view of flood hazard areas in relation to property and structures. The panels are in preliminary format and will not be adopted until later this year. They cannot currently be used for flood insurance purposes.
Alleghany County and Clifton Forge will host an open house Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The open house, which will be held in the board room of the county governmental complex in Low Moor, will provide citizens to ask questions before a public hearing is held later this year to adopt the maps and ordinance changes.
Representatives from FEMA and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will be available Tuesday to answer citizens’ questions.
Residents of the county can visit the county zoning office Friday to view the maps. At other times, residents of Clifton Forge can visit the town’s code compliance office to view the maps.
