Alma Shepherd Dickson, 93, formerly of Covington, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Snyder Nursing Home Inc., Salem.
She was the wife of Leonard Hubert Dickson Sr., who preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Dickson was born Jan. 18, 1916, in Sullivan, W.Va., the daughter of the late John Tyler Shepherd and Catherine Jane Chandler Shepherd.
A resident of this area since 1933, she was a beautician, owning a shop in her home for 34 years. Mrs. Dickson was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Semper Fidelis Sunday School Class, the Women of the Church, and the choir. She was active with the Lay Witness Mission for 20 years.
Mrs. Dickson is survived by a son, Norman Gregory Dickson and wife, Lisa, of Covington; two daughters, Linda D. Landis and husband, Charles, Tracie Dawn Dickson, both of Salem.
In addition to her parents, John Tyler Shepherd and Catherine Jane Chandler Shepherd, and husband, Leonard Hubert Dickson Sr., Mrs. Dickson was preceded in death by two sons, Leonard H. Dickson Jr. and Ronnie Dickson; four brothers, Malcolm Shepherd, Quintin Shepherd, Arnold Shepherd, John Shepherd; four sisters, Mable S. Battin, Helen S. Entsminger, Zola S. Harger, Glenna S. Jones.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Snider officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Richard Shepherd, Jeffery Harger, Richard Dickson, Edward Landis, Tom Elmore and Greg Dickson.
The family will receive friends this evening from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Greg and Lisa Dickson, 918 White Oak Drive, Covington.
