CLIFTON FORGE - Dabney S. Lancaster Community College has partnered with Shentel – a provider of television and Internet services in the Highlands – on a project to interconnect the campus with fiber-optic cable and enhance its cable reception.

The endeavor is a new partnership between Shentel and DSLCC, with some members of the college’s technical staff dedicating numerous hours to the project and Shentel providing the services of an on-site team, equipment and supervision during implementation.

Both partners are making substantial contributions so that the goals of the project will be successfully met in a timely manner. DSLCC is providing labor to assist Shentel contractors now working on campus.

Shentel’s equipment donations include the necessary components, including items such as the fiber optic cable, fiber splicing material, patch frames, transmitters, nodes, fiber splitters and jumpers.

Shentel representative Ci-ndy Rinker commented on the project during a recent visit to the DSLCC campus, stating, “Shentel has a long history of supporting education and we are proud to partner with Dabney Lancaster Community College. At Shentel, we believe it is our responsibility as a business to support the communities we serve.”

DSLCC President Richard Teaff expressed his appreciation for the many contributions that Shentel has made to the college.

“Without the support of companies like Shentel, it would not be possible for us to have the resources for the infrastructure necessary to keep abreast of the newest technologies and services that our students need and deserve”, commented Teaff. “One of our highest priorities is for DSLCC graduates to enter the workforce or continue their education at four-year institutions having had experience with the latest advances in technology. We appreciate this support very much and sincerely value this partnership with Shentel.”

Work on the project is under way and should be completed in the near future. Current plans include interconnecting Moomaw Center, McCarthy Hall, Scott Hall, Warren Hall, Backels Hall and the Armory/Convocation Center.

Shentel recently completed a renovation of its store on West Main Street in Covington and will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony on Jan. 27.
